“需要看到”的优先顺序

我个人的经历澄清了为什么寻找灵魂的人并不一定能看到他们想看到的人。通过我自己的经历，我相信实验者能够看到他们“需要”看的人。

在我的案例中我和外祖母的关系非常融洽，但是与我祖母的关系却有些不顺畅。一般来说，与相处困难的人们重聚会产生更大的好处和影响。

很多实验者的经历也证明他们希望看到的恰恰是他们需要看的。如果这两个需求重叠，重聚就会依照计划进行；如果不是，需求就会优先考虑。

同时，我自己这些经历的细节使我觉得有必要在这里对我的老朋友丽莎白丝·克波勒-罗斯博士做一个公开的道歉。1977年伊丽莎白告诉我她与一个去世的熟人相遇的故事。我重新回忆这个故事，一天她在走廊上正朝着她的办公室走去，这时她注意到一个女人站在走廊中。

这两位女士就开始交谈，伊丽莎白请这位女士进入他的办公室。过了一会儿，伊丽莎白靠近看这个女士的时候，突然惊异地说，“我认识你！”她认出这位女士是舒沃茨太太，一个她非常熟悉的病人，几个月前已经去世了。舒沃茨太太认可了她的相认，两个人继续聊了一段时间。

当伊丽莎白告诉我这个故事的时候，我记得很大声地驳斥。“伊丽莎白，别开玩笑了！”我说到，“如果这个人是你非常熟悉的，为什么一开始你没有把她认出来呢？”

现在，经过了这么多年，我可以说我理解了。从我自身和他人的经历，我能够确定那些去世的人的影像和他们去世前并不完全一样。非常奇怪，--不过也许并不如此，--他们看起来更年轻，更少了一些忧虑，但是他们依然能够辨认出曾经的样子。

我自己的经历和早期的经验证明，镜像凝视是连接自发的和借助外力看到去世亲人的桥梁。

进一步的研究证实了镜像凝视曾经在历史上多次运用并产生了令人惊讶的结果。这些历史上的证据使我更加的投入的镜像凝视中来。
